Titus 2:11-14
In last week’s Sunday School lesson we studied God’s
discipline of His children. One of the things we noted was that the word
paideia (3809) often translated discipline, correction, or punishment, has the
primary meaning of the rearing of a child, training.
Titus 2:11-14 (NASB)
11 For the grace of
God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
12 instructing us to
deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and
godly in the present age,
13 looking for the
blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ
Jesus,
14 who gave Himself
for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people
for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (NASB)
23 Now may the God of
peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be
preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is He who
calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
It’s comforting to see who is doing the work. The God of
peace Himself sanctifies you and Paul underscores this by adding a note about
Father’s faithfulness; He will bring it to pass.
Titus 2:11-14 (NASB)
11 For the grace of God

Titus 2:11 (Larry Eiss Translation) - 11 Appeared therefore,
the grace of God, the salvation of all people
Philippians 2:13 (NASB)
13 for it is God who is
at work (energeo-1754) in you, both to will
and to work (energeo-1754) for His good pleasure.
1 John 3:2-3 (NASB)
2 Beloved, now we are
children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him,
because we will see Him just as He is.
3 And everyone who
has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
John 1:12-13 (NASB)
12 But as many as received
Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe
in His name,
13 who were born, not
of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 1:17 (NASB)
17 For the Law was given
through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.
Galatians 3:23-25 (NASB)
23 But before faith came,
we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later
to be revealed.
24 Therefore the Law has
become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.
25 But now that faith
has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
Romans 6:14 (NASB)
14 For sin shall not be master over you, for you
are not under law but under grace.
